Re: Closest to seven cut for deal - edge cases
Trying the closest to seven cut for deal. What happens if one player cuts 6 and the other cuts 8?
Do you treat face cards as 10 or just count them as 10 away?

We call it a tie and re-cut. Same distance from seven.
We treat face cards as 10 for distance.
We use ace as 1, number cards face value, face cards as 10. Closest wins, ties re-cut.
If someone cuts a 7 exactly they win outright. Thats our only special rule.
In our Costanza game, cutting a 7 lets you choose deal or lead.
We ignore suit. Only distance matters.
Another option is to use lowest card as usual, but give a bonus point for a 7 cut.
We tried it and went back to low card. Closest to seven adds a lot of explaining.
I have seen it printed in a local rule sheet. It seems tied to lowball variants.
Keep it simple: ace is 1, face is 10, tie re-cut. Otherwise it drags on.
